Not sure what the issue is, my 857 shuts down on 40 with anything over 20 watts. But on 20 I can throw 100 watts without any problems. I even QSO'd Mexico city yesterday. No prob on 40 since two days ago. Swr is great on all bands.

Check your station ground. Before I had my new ground rod installed, mine was giving me occasional problems on some bands at higher power. If your SWR is OK, maybe look for better station ground.

Thx, I'll check it out. Worked fine up this occurrence. Maybe one of the dogs chewed my ground at the antenna.

Mark, I think I solved the problem. I found a bad ground from my lightning protector out at the antenna.. Ran a new ground from the SO-238 to the ground rod....full power on 40...The ground inside the shack is running to a cold water pipe. I plan on sinking a 1/2 ground rod through the slab (There are holes every three feet from the termite guy) and run a better ground. Every piece of equipment has a ground.....even the beer cans 73 Pat

My first station ground was 14g stranded (green insulated) running 20' to a cold water pipe. A couple times my Flex software froze, thinking Firewire comm. Also thinking too long of run, maybe standing waves in my ground. After sinking that 8' ground rod right outside my shack wall and shortening wire runs, I haven't had a problem Also added station ground to PC case.
