Hi Gang. I'm a brand new Tech. licensee with a new toy. Using Yaesu FT2DR/DE.
I've been monitoring various frequencies off and on for about a week and did my first transmission today and just happened to catch Mark and Pat. Thanks Mark for taking some time with me. Still have a lot of reading to do so I can get used to the features on my radio.
I got into this a little backward, I'll explain, I Just bought a new jeep (still waiting for it to be delivered later this month) and started purchasing some of the accessories in advance. I plan on hitting a lot of the off road trails. While looking to upgrade my CB I started looking into the HAM. I found out that I can reach out much further from some of these canyons because of the repeaters than I can with the CB or my phone. What I didn't know until then was how many people are using HAM. I hardly ever heard anyone on the CB. So I went over to HRO and got the YAESU, then studied for a few weeks and took the test for the Tech. Lic.
While listening this last week, it made me realize that I'll have to hit the books again and get a general license. Then I'll probably also mount a bigger radio in my jeep, but first, I'll get used to this one and see just how far I can get with a decent antenna on the jeep. I'll take it slow though. Another thing I came to realize is that this can be addictive and you can spend a whole lot of money in a very short time upgrading to a better station setup.
Thanks again Mark for the help. I'll be checking in more often. Probably join the local club.
See ya.

Hi Lou, thanks for checking out our site! It was great talking with you yesterday, if you have any questions just ask. I look forward to more QSOs. As far as the Jeepn', you need to meet Brandon KI7LGF who is involved with a 4x4 club and also has Yaesu Fusion radios. He lives very close to you. Another avid 4x4 guy is Bill N9EIV in Scottsdale, also with Fusion radios and a Wires-X repeater. Area 52 is NOT a club, we are a group of simplex aficionados, LOL. No dues here!!! Please join the boards, it's FREE. And CONGRATS on that new Ticket

I’ll be monitoring 147.52 for simplex traffic. 146.52 has a territorial pissing contest currently & I want no part of it. I couldn’t log in with my current call, had to use my former. This is AC7AZ, Mark.
